Bauhaus Museum Weimar
With contemporary architecture and multimedia exhibition design, the Bauhaus Museum Weimar not only restages the treasures of the world's oldest Bauhaus collection. The new museum building was opened in 2019 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus. On five levels, it links Weimar Bauhaus history with the questions of shaping life today and tomorrow. As a place of encounter, openness and discussion in a newly emerging quarter, the Bauhaus Museum Weimar offers contemporary perspectives on the ambivalent impact history of modernism from its beginnings to the present. Exhibition "The Bauhaus comes from Weimar": At the founding site of the State Bauhaus, the museum recalls the early Weimar phase of the most important design and art school of the 20th century. The Klassik Stiftung Weimar owns the world's oldest Bauhaus collection, established by Walter Gropius as early as 1925. The new museum building offers more than 2,200 square metres of exhibition space for the presentation of the collection, which has now grown to 13,000 objects. The tour through eventful years of art and contemporary history invites visitors to approach the Bauhaus and its roots in modernism around 1900 as well as current questions of design, art, architecture and society.
