Thuringian Zoo
The zoo of large animals is located in the north of the state capital Erfurt on the Red Mountain and is with almost 63 hectares the third largest scientifically managed zoo in Germany. The special features of the zoo are the many generously designed enclosures, which were modeled on the natural habitat of the animals. The communal keeping of different animal species is becoming increasingly important. Some of the facilities are even accessible, so that visitors can meet the animals directly. The Thuringian Zoopark Erfurt is also strongly committed to species conservation and participates in breeding programs for endangered species. The zoo restaurant, a bistro and other snack stands provide for the physical well-being.
During the autumn holidays, the Thuringian Zoopark Erfurt attracts all holiday kids to the zoo every day. The varied autumn holiday programme makes a visit to the zoo a colourful experience. Learn everything about the Zoopark and its animal inhabitants on a public guided tour. The zoo school educator team will answer every child's question during the one-hour tour. Interested kids can also support our animal keepers in their work. In the Hirschwald, the Sika and fallow deer living there are fed with leaves or carrots. There is close contact with animals on the show farm. There, the ponies and donkeys are groomed under the guidance of our animal keepers. There is also the opportunity to walk through the zoo with the donkeys, yaks or even llamas.
